Type2 Split/Bay Tie rod clamp bracket 111415841-A
By turning the tie rod in or out, the car is aligned. The ball joint is then secured with a double nut or clamp.
The clamp mentioned here is identical to the original, where the special bolt with the spring washer and the nut are not forgotten. In many Volkswagens this bolt and nut have already been replaced by a standard M8 bolt and nut, even most reproduction steering rods do not use these special bolts and nuts.
Volkswagen did not use a metric fine thread bolt for nothing, these are less susceptible to dirt. Adapting the length of the clamp bolt also prevents the bolt thread from getting dirty, which also helps to keep it moving.
Even with a lot of dirt, unscrewing an original fine metric threaded nut will not be a problem, whereas the 1.25 metric threaded bolt will break or turn because of all the dirt.
This new clamp with the correct mounting hardware is exactly as Volkswagen used it in the factory.
Note :
The spring washer provided with curved ends replaces the standard spring washer fitted when the mounting bracket is used on a Volkswagen Bus up to 7.1967. On all other VW models, this spring ring is superfluous.
