Five speed gearboxes only
These small bushings ensure that there is no play between the gear lever and the shift rod.
Because these are plastic bushings, they wear out and the gear lever will feel very loose. This makes it more difficult to find the right gear.
You need two bushings for the gearbox. In a four-speed gearbox, these bushings are located in the gear lever itself, and in a five-speed gearbox, they are located in the head of the shift rod.
In the Golf 1, four bushings are used: two in the gear lever and two in the rod transmission on the gearbox.
